Sports Premium
The Government is providing additional funding for the next 2 academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding has been provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Each school will receive £8000, plus £5 for each pupil in years 1 – 6.
The total that Crow Lane has received this year, is £8895.
At Crow Lane we intend to use the sports premium funding to:
- Bring in sports coaches to work alongside staff to develop staff skills and knowledge
- Use these coaches to provide a wider variety of lunchtime sports clubs
- Ensure that the sports equipment needed to carry out high quality Physical Education is available for staff and children to use in PE lessons.
- Provide additional opportunities for children to participate in sport competitions within our locality.
Impact
During the year 2013-2014, sports coaches have been involved in PE lessons with class teachers. They have supported teachers in developing their skills delivering gymnastics, games and dance lessons. Through this close working there has been evidence, through lesson observations, that the quality of PE teaching at Crow Lane has improved and is now usually good. We will be continuing to support staff in PE lessons during the academic year 2014 – 2015 so that the skills and subject knowledge of existing staff members are further enhanced and those of new staff are supported and developed as appropriate.
In the summer term pupils have had the opportunity to take part in lunchtime clubs, and this will be continuing in the next academic year. Pupils have enjoyed being active during lunch breaks and year 5 and 6 girls have particularly enjoyed learning a new sport outside of the classroom.
Some examples of the work pupils' work in PE can be seen on our pupils' page.
